I was so excited to see The Hunger Games as soon as it came out! The media was talking a lot about it. There was a lot of focus on the children violence, which is what the movie is all about. Children fighting to the death in an arena. Not because they wanted to but because the people had to be taught a lesson and reminded that they are powerless against the Capitol. I was nervous about watching the fighting. I am not one who enjoys violent films in
any way but i really loved these books! I prepared myself for the movie knowing it would be violent but i also knew that there is a greater meaning.
First of all, i have to say they did an amazing job. The actors were perfect, they kept the important stuff ( i know they can't keep everything from the book), the filming made it feel so real and i am really glad its not! The opening scenes of the movie show how destitute the people in District 12 are. I felt like I was watching a history movie.
I was surprised at how emotional i got watching the film. I read all 3 books and knew exactly what would happen but i cried when Katniss volunteered for her sister Prim. I teared up when Rue died and Katniss placed flowers around her dead body. The movie was very touching.

This is Effie and a great example of
how extreme the Capitol people were
with their appearance. |
What was more clear to me in seeing the movie than from reading the books was the people who lived in the Capitol (and maybe its because i am a visual learner). The people in the capitol looked so silly and oblivious to reality. They had no clue that people lived with out and were suffering. They watched the Hunger Games like some great TV show not thinking how they were real kids murdering one another. The styles and treads were outrageous. It was obvious how self absorbed they were. Well... this got me thinking that maybe this is a message to me and really everyone. I need to look outside myself. There
are people suffering in this world. There
are people who don't have the luxuries that i do. I need to stop worrying about what clothes i wear and if my hair looks good and
think and do things for other people. Strangely
enough
I came home from that movie inspired. I wanted to forsake my "worldly living" and look outward.

Good movie. I will definitely see it again and again.
