Spoonfuls of Squash

I have been trying to start Charlie on solids with many failed attempts. I gave him squash yesterday and he went to town. I thought "alright he's ready to eat!" Then today I added rice cereal to the squash. He didn't want anything to do with it. For dinner I gave him plain squash again... That's what he likes. Plain squash. I have now learned that he doesn't like rice cereal.

I plan to make my own baby food. I made a few batches. I have some pears, bananas, and green beans in the freezer. Charlie totally rejected the green beans. I haven't tried any fruit yet. I was told to introduce veggies before fruit.

I bought a few jars of baby food. Since i did and had success its tempting me now to just buy. But I know I would save $$ if I make it myself. Maybe I will do both.

  1. I saved LOADS of money by making my own baby food. I simplified a lot by starting out by making my kids the same thing we were having - just without anything added. So if we were having pears or zuchini, I'd just cook and puree it while I was making dinner, etc. My kids never liked rice cereal either, but they loved plain cooked rice pureed. Once they got a little older I just used one of those kidco food mills and gave them whatever we were having mashed up. Do it however works easiest for you and he'll get a lot more variety than what the processed baby food offers, and it'll be healthier for him to! Good luck!

  2. Yeah I don't know any kid that likes that rice cereal crap, haha. At least mine never did. He is growing so much though, and he is adorable!
